eGFR Calculator

Estimate glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with the CKD-EPI 2021 equation, with the CKD stage for the result. Educational tool only.

Estimated GFR
103 mL/min/1.73mยฒ
G1 โ€” Normal or high
Creatinine used
0.90 mg/dL
Converted from your entry for the equation

eGFR is estimated from a single creatinine result, your age and sex, and is normalised to a body surface area of 1.73 mยฒ. A single value says nothing on its own: kidney function is staged from a result that is stable for at least three months, alongside other tests such as urine albumin. Cystatin C may be used in some situations. Results in pregnancy, in people with unusual muscle mass, and in acute illness need extra care.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal eGFR?

A result of 90 or above is generally considered normal in adults, provided there are no other signs of kidney damage. Values between 60 and 89 without other findings are common and often age-related.

What does a low eGFR mean?

A lower eGFR suggests reduced kidney filtration. Persistently reduced values are staged from G1 to G5 under the KDIGO system, with G5 representing kidney failure. Only a clinician can interpret your result in context.

Which eGFR equation is used?

This calculator uses the CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation, which is race-free and is the current recommended form. Older equations such as MDRD are still encountered in older records.

Can I use this for drug dosing?

No. Drug dosing decisions require a clinician and local guidance, and often different equations depending on the drug. This tool is for education only.
